We know it’s important that your customers have the best possible experience during and after their dermal filler treatment. Post procedure care is an important step and can produce the best results, which means you can reap the benefits of a happy client base! With this in mind, we have put together our top tips for post treatment care.
Manage clients’ expectations around post-treatment results
It is important to inform your client of what to expect after their treatment. Initial swelling can surprise people and the extent to which this happens is dependent entirely on the person. However, swelling is completely normal, and it is important to explain that the initial look after treatment is not a true reflection of the final result. Most swelling will subside after a couple of days, but it is suggested to wait 2 weeks after before seeing the true results. It is also normal to feel the filler under the skin for 4-6 weeks post treatment, which is a common worry for many people.
No matter how skilled at your procedures you may be, there is always a chance of bruising due to the semi invasive nature of the treatment. However, this bruising is temporary and is usually resolved entirely after around 1-2 weeks. Arnica pills and gel are advised to be used to minimise bruising.
Things to avoid
There are certain activities that your client should avoid post treatment to help with the healing process:
Alcohol, Exercise and Extreme Heat
Clients should avoid strenuous exercise, drinking alcohol, and spending time in extreme heat (this includes sunbeds and saunas) for 24-48 hours after a procedure, as these can all lead to further bruising in the treated areas.
Aspirin and Ibuprofen
Paracetamol can be used to alleviate any pain post procedure, however it is important to advise clients that Aspirin and Ibuprofen should be avoided for the day following a treatment. These both thin the blood, which can worsen any bruising.
Make up
Whilst we know it may be tempting for many people to apply make up after plumping their pout or contouring their jawline, it must be avoided for at least 12 hours post treatment!
Touching the treated areas
Unless advised via product, clients must avoid the urge to massage or overly touch the treated areas after treatment to allow time for the formula to settle within their skin.
The healing process
Whilst time is the best healer for dermal procedures, drinking plenty of water and focusing on eating healthy wholesome foods full of vitamins and minerals such as fruits and vegetables can assist with the healing process.
Reversing dermal fillers
If your client has had a change of heart after treatment and wants to revert to their natural features Hyaluronidase can be used to dissolve HA fillers. The naturally occurring enzyme is injected at a high concentration and can instantly dissolve the unwanted filler.
How long will Dermal Fillers last?
Dermal fillers provide long-lasting enhancement, but they do not create permanent results, a common question customer ask is how long will my dermal fillers last?! Of course, The answer is dependent on the areas of treatment and the product used. For example, REVOLAX Fine can last up to 12 months whilst REVOLAX Deep and SUB-Q can prolong their enhancement for up to 18 months. Hyaluronic acid fillers tend to offer shorter team results than fillers like Sculptra which can last up to 2 years. It is also suggested that If it is the clients first treatment, they may wish to have a follow up treatment 6-9 months to maximise their results.
